Project Overview

Our clients approached us with a common problem: their Victorian terraced home had a small, dark kitchen that felt disconnected from the garden. With a growing family, they needed more space for cooking, dining, and entertaining.

We designed and built a 6m x 4m single-storey rear extension that completely transformed the ground floor. The new space features a fully fitted kitchen, dining area, and family living space—all flowing seamlessly together and out to the garden through stunning bi-fold doors.

Three large skylights flood the space with natural light throughout the day, while underfloor heating ensures year-round comfort. The result is a contemporary family hub that's become the heart of the home.

The Challenge

This project presented several challenges that required careful planning and execution:

  • Narrow access: The property is mid-terrace with no side access, requiring all materials and waste to pass through the house
  • Structural work: Removing the rear wall and installing a substantial steel beam to support the first floor
  • Foundations: Working in clay soil requiring deeper foundations than standard
  • Family living: The clients remained in the property throughout, so we maintained access and minimized disruption
